World Braille Day
“Braille is knowledge and knowledge is power” – Louis Braille. A simple quote with a great impact, this statement is definitely worth a thought. We often take the five senses of our body for granted and yet manage to whine about our physical features. Ever thought of taking a step back and wondering about those who aren’t fortunate enough to see the world? Bnwwear kickstarted 2022 on a great note as we found ourselves lucky to be able to spend time with the lovely children of Guwahati Blind High School.
To create awareness about Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people, the school held a three-day event that witnessed all the students participating in various sports, competitions, and races. As many establishments such as banks, restaurants and hospitals don’t offer braille versions of their printed materials, this day serves as a reminder of the importance of accessibility and independence for people who are visually impaired.
Bnwwear was a co-sponsor of the event held by Guwahati Blind High School and what our team experienced during these three days is sheer joy, undeterred determination, and a never-give-up attitude. It was the perfect inspiration to sail us through the year.
The event was inaugurated on 2nd January 2022 with a cricket match that lasted for about 2 hours where our co-founder, Mr. Ayush played the role of the umpire and what we saw was the literal execution of the thought that – nothing is impossible. Played between the ex-students and current students at the school, we were simply awestruck by the way this match was played. The man of the match who belongs to the B1 category which means has zero eyesight, put it simply when asked about his life philosophy – “I believe that we have one life, and we must live it to the fullest.”

On 3rd January there were various competition that were held between boys and girls. From blind hits, reading and writing competitions to sit ups, these children showcased a strong attitude that can be resonated only with a winner. Each of these games were played for hours owing to the students’ joy and excitement to ace every sport like a true sportsman.
On World Braille Day, which is on 4th January, we have the singing competition wherein we saw visually impaired children play instruments like the Octopad, Tabla and Paino flawlessly and lend the perfect rhythm to the children who were singing without losing a single beat.
Bnwwear was there to encourage and support this great initiative to raise awareness about Braille as a means of communication. We are proud to have associated with this event and be able to bring a smile to the face of the winners.
